The Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center of Northern Indiana, Inc. (OSMC) announces that Mark A. Klaassen, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon, will retire from the practice on December 31, 2023.
Patients who have visited Dr. Klaassen within the last two years recently were sent a letter by U.S. Mail alerting them to his retirement.
Dr. Klaassen joined OSMC in 1987, and since then, over 20,000 patients have had the opportunity to take advantage of the doctor’s expertise in knees, hips and shoulders. An incredible surgeon, Dr. K. specializes in total joint replacements, including total hip replacement, total knee replacement, robotic assisted surgery and more.
Throughout his career the doctor mentored orthopedic surgeons throughout the U.S. and other countries, providing instruction on advanced orthopedic surgical techniques and procedures – many of which he was instrumental in developing. He is a consultant for medical device companies assisting in product development, surgical technique development, and surgeon education. Education has been a big part of his career as he is a Professor of Science of the University of Notre Dame, as well as Associate Professor of orthopedic surgery at Indiana University school of Medicine. Dr. Klaassen is especially proud of his ability to make a difference in the quality of life for his patients.
Helping others lead a better life is tightly woven into Dr. Klaassen’s character. The doctor’s parents were missionaries in the country of Colombia. His devotion to his patients, new and old, is very palpable. A great example of his passion to serve is his yearly mission trip with a team of other U.S. surgeons to Guatemala. “Team Hope in Motion” is a volunteer medical humanitarian organization that provides the gift of mobility through life-changing joint replacement surgeries at no cost to Guatemalan citizens in need.
Thank you Dr. Klaassen for your service and excellent care! You’ll be greatly missed. Best wishes!
